The State College man who is accused of murdering a Penn State student was granted a hearing to challenge his second-degree murder charge.
Andrew A. Rogers, 28, will have a hearing May 30 at the Centre County Courthouse before Judge Bradley Lunsford.
Rogers is charged with the first-, second- and third-degree murder of Youngcheol Park, who was found in Rogers' residence, 124 Nimitz Ave. He allegedly beat Park to death with a baseball bat, bottle and rolling pin on Feb. 23. After Rogers took Park's wallet and used the money to buy food and a hotel room, he turned himself in to the Uniontown Police Department four days later, according to court documents.
A female Penn State student, 21, reported to Penn State University Police Monday that she had been sexually assaulted April 24, 2004, by an acquaintance in a Graduate Circle Apartment. Police said the incident, which involved nonconsensual sex, allegedly occurred between 3 and 4 a.m. Police would not reveal whether the man was a Penn State student. Police said that despite the elapsed time, it is still possible to report and prosecute rape.
