Lions vote on captains, Brown, Posluszny in '06

Tackle Levi Brown and outside linebacker Paul Posluszny have been elected co-captains of the 2006 Penn State football team.

A consensus All-American in 2005, Posluszny becomes the Nittany Lions' first two-time captain since defensive linemen Mike Reid and Steve Smear were tri-captains in 1968 and '69. Last season, Posluszny was instrumental in helping the Lions earn an 11-1 mark.

Brown, a second team Associated Press All-American last year, and Posluszny, are among the initial candidates for the 37th Rotary Lombardi Award, presented by Wachovia Bank. The award is presented to the nation's top lineman or linebacker. Brown and Posluszny comprise half of the players from Big Ten schools on the Lombardi Award Watch List.

Posluszny won the 2005 Butkus Award as the nation's premier linebacker and the Chuck Bednarik Award, given the nation's top defensive player.
