Student found dead

Collegian Staff Writer

Police found a Penn State student dead in his State College apartment Saturday afternoon.

The State College Police Department was called to 21-year-old Jon R. Taiclet's Gill Street residence at about 5 p.m. He was found dead in his bed.

State College police Cpl. Tom Dann said there was no sign of struggle at the scene, and there was no trauma to Taiclet's body.

Taiclet is originally from Pittsburgh but lived at Penn State Apartments, 245 S. Gill St.

Taiclet was most likely dead for a few hours before his girlfriend, who is a Penn State student, en-tered his apartment and found him, Dann said. She is not considered a suspect.

"There is no indication that this was a suicide," he added.

Police spent several hours investigating the apartment. Taiclet lived with at least one other roommate, who was not home, Dann said.

"We cannot release at this time whether drugs were present at the scene," he said.

Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers has performed an autopsy on Taiclet, but his cause of death was not released by press time.

Taiclet recently transferred to a geography major from the engineering program. He was interested in energy and environmental issues and worked in Penn State's geography department's office, friends said.

The incident is still under investigation by State College Police detective Michael McDaniel and the coroner.

Dann said counselors were provided for those who were close to Taiclet.
