NEWS

For Penn State student Josh Stulman, years of hard work ended in disappointment yesterday when the university cancelled his upcoming art exhibit for violation of Penn State's policies on nondiscrimination, harassment and hate.

Twenty-two members of the University Park Allocation Committee (UPAC) sent a letter to administrators Wednesday expressing concerns with new proposals that would increase the amount of administrative control over the $2 million Student Activity Fee.

Three days after charges of underage drinking were filed against Penn State student Ryan Walton, who fell from a sixth-floor Beaver Hall window after a party, his roommate and another student have been charged with furnishing, serving and consuming alcohol.

For the Penn State football team, this spring has been about developing young talent and providing opportunities to players with much potential but seemingly little game experience.

Those who have ever wanted to enter a black hole or walk on Mars will get their big break tomorrow -- no prior experience or space shuttle required.

Conserving water has become increasingly important as Pennsylvania is currently in the midst of a statewide drought watch that began a week ago, Paul Ruskin, spokesman for the Office of the Physical Plant, said.

In response to 32 student deaths this year, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate has been using its last weeks of the semester to create a program that will give students the opportunity to help families of deceased students.

Student residents in buildings owned by A.W. & Sons could be preparing for more than just finals during the first week of May.

The Gingerbread Man officially changed hands on April 1, but fans of the restaurant can sleep peacefully.

Local police departments will increase their presence in the area for Blue and White weekend festivities, while the Centre County Alcohol Task Force will coordinate sobriety checkpoints.

Even the predicted thunderstorms rumbling won't drown out the sound of some Penn State football players who plan to rap onstage this weekend.

Students packed the Eisenhower Auditorium last night to watch the second annual debate between environmental concerns and economic interests.

SPORTS

The light at the end of the tunnel for the No. 57 Penn State men's tennis team all season had been the same -- a berth to the NCAA Team Championships.

Penn State and Northwestern have taken similar paths to this weekend's Big Ten series, which begins at 4 p.m. today in Evanston, Ill. But both sit in different positions in the conference standings.

Sudden death isn't a term used in softball, but with the Big Ten's best three pitchers taking the circle this weekend at Penn State, one run may be all it takes to put away a crucial conference victory.

Anthony Morelli can count last season's 20 pass attempts on his fingers and toes, but his lack of experience isn't dashing anyone's hopes for the upcoming season. If anything, the rising junior is forced to shoulder the burden of even higher expectations.

Levi Brown knows all about work.

Justin King was the rookie-in-training last season, picking up tips and guidance along the way from four of the starting defensive backs. But all that's changed.

They're not even really relays.

Coming off of two weeks of extensive travel and competition, the Penn State women's track and field team hopes to have a relaxed, fun meet this weekend.

As soon as the Penn State men's lacrosse game ended Wednesday night at Jeffrey Field, Penn State coach Glenn Thiel knew that his team needed one thing before its next game three days later.

Finishing the season on a good note is key for the Penn State women's tennis team.

This weekend, there will be hard hits, breakaway runs and inches won and lost. Not just inside Beaver Stadium, but on the fields surrounding it as well.

With hopes of winning the American Lacrosse Conference and making it back to the NCAA Tournament dwindling, the Penn State women's lacrosse team is looking to salvage its season this weekend and finish with strong wins.

On March 4, the Penn State men's rugby team traveled to West Point, N.Y., for a regular-season match with Army. The back-and-forth battle ultimately went in favor of the Black Knights by way of a last-second score. This is the last time Penn State lost.

The mantra of the Penn State football program is not only to win championships, but also to promote family values and to mold young men into strong adults.

After spending an entire season playing on the road, the Penn State men's golf team will remain at home this weekend to host the Rutherford Intercollegiate at the Blue and White Courses in State College. Some of the golfers' family and friends will be on hand, as well, to support them in their last event of the year.

ARTS

Sitting in a mostly empty theater watching Scary Movie 4 on Easter, I began to question my role as a critic.

When Toby Keith, the man behind macho, blind-patriotism anthems like "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)," came out with a new album, I'm not sure what I expected. I guess it was something tough.

For the first time in more than a decade, stellar hip-hop has found a home on the album charts. Blame Kanye's Benz/backpack dichotomy, the gaping hole Jay-Z's faux departure left in word-centric rap, or a collective post re-election bump in the nation's IQ if you want, but drooling Lil' Jon-isms seem to be on their way out, and ornate production and lyrical dexterity are back in. For fans of hip-hop, this is very, very good news.

Never in film history has a movie started with the spitting of a giant loogie, but leave it to the film Thank You for Smoking to pave the way.

Sometimes art is as simple as black and white.

This weekend students are invited to catch the Caribbean flavor at Jamaican Junction's Spring Bash.

Penn State's Orchesis Dance Company is stepping out this weekend with its yearly spring semester showcase.
