Maybe it was Chetan Shah's smooth dance moves in his Eastern and Western fusion dance that impressed the judges.
Or maybe it was his personal Orange Bowl trophy made from an upside-down lampshade and a lamppost during the Penn State/Greek Pride portion.
Whatever impressed the six judges at last night's Greek Pageant made them name the Delta Sigma Iota fraternity member Mr. Greek 2006.
"This will be a great opportunity to serve the greek community," Shah said.
This year's first Greek Pageant was a spin-off from last year's Mr. Greek Pageant. The pageant consisted of three portions: Penn State/Greek Pride, talent and question and answer.
Each of the 10 contestants, five fraternity members and five sorority members, were chosen after his or her chapter submitted an application and went through an interview process, Greek Week Programming Chairwoman Hadley Spanier said.
Shah performed a break-dancing segment in the talent portion for about 500 cheering greek members and intermixed some Eastern dance using props and Western hip-hop music.
During the question-and-answer portion, he noted his favorite Penn State memory as being a dancer in the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.
"I can't put [that experience] into words," he added.
Laura Nolan was named Miss Greek 2006 as she was crowned with golden ivy and received a white sash, a bouquet of roses and a $200 check. Shah also received these prizes.
Nolan wore a blue toga with the PSU and Gamma Phi Beta symbols and gold strap sandals, carrying a plush Penn State football and blue and white pompom for the pride portion.
