Jealousy fuels the fight with alum in Key West

Collegian Staff Writer

Last night's episode of The Real World: Key West started off in true MTV fashion, showing Penn State alumnus John Devenanzio and his roommates having fun at the local bars. A few glimpses of Paula's jealousy over John and his new lady friends were a quick insight into the drama MTV had in store for fans.

The next day, the cast headed out for some scuba diving lessons and a reality wake-up call as they learned of a hurricane heading toward Key West.

That night, however, things still hadn't changed between John and Paula, as Paula continued to act a little out of the ordinary.

In a strange act of sabotage, Paula moved in on John's girls only to flirt with them herself, leaving a confused John in the dust.

Once outside of the bar, Paula continued her strange antics of having the girls pick her up to do pull-ups and begging them to come back to the house. This ultimately confused Zach, as he and John questioned Paula's motives.

While the show went on to portray the fight between Paula and John escalating quickly, John said it was many fights leading to one big explosion.

"It was a couple of instances that led up to the fight they showed between us in the kitchen that night," John said after the show had aired.

John also said they showed the fight pretty accurately.

"Paula was so effective at what she did," John said. "I just thought she was being mean, but she was doing everything in her power she could do to make sure she didn't see me with other girls."

According to John, after much thought and a few beers, he finally realized Paula wasn't interested in girls, but actually interested in him.

"It took me a long time to admit it," John said. "But she had a big crush on me, and it killed her to see me with other girls."

During the show, John accused Paula of being a lesbian, but it was roommate Zach who urged John to "shut up" and back down from the fight. However, it was Paula's remark that "John's mad because I take all his girls" that fueled the fire.

John said he fought back because he was tired of Paula cutting him off at the knees and making him look stupid.

However, it was a visit from the mayor of Key West the next day that brought the roommates back to reality as he explained to them that there was a hurricane evacuation in effect and the roommates had only a few hours to leave the island.

The roommates secured the house and their tanning salon, and jumped in the car for a long 200-mile trip to West Palm Beach, where the next episode will pick up.

"Tonight was the fight, and next week the hurricane. It's gonna get crazy," John said.
