Illegal immigration debate proves groups' immaturity
I applaud the Black Caucus, Latino Caucus and College Republicans for highlighting an important political issue, but I cannot help but wonder how immature people outside of college think these groups are ("PSU against illegal immigrant day," April 13). People hearing about Illegal Immigration Awareness Day might view it as a politicized game of tag. An immigrant's residency status is not obvious, and there aren't bounty hunters capturing immigrants for a reward as if we were living in the days of "Wanted Dead or Alive" posters. I can see why Penn State President Graham Spanier warned the groups about the idea. While free speech is our right, it's in the best interest of the university for its organizations to run respectful programs spreading awareness while treating important issues without mockery.
