Letter to the Editor
Horowitz correct to address liberal bias in PSU classes

I guess I'm not surprised the College Democrats protested a speaker who dares to advance an opinion that is not in lock step with the only "acceptable" ideology at this university: liberalism ("Horowitz: Students only get half the story," April 14).

I was amused to read that members of the group believe David Horowitz wants to force people to think a certain way. Setting aside the fact that this is of course not true, I'd like to know what they think goes on daily in lecture halls. For every nonpartisan professor trying to honestly encourage real discourse and debate, there is one doing his best to encourage left-wing thought among some very impressionable freshmen. I couldn't write an economics paper arguing in favor of tax cuts to spur growth because I was afraid I'd be penalized for my views by my professor. Would I have? I don't know, but the fact that the fear exists among students and for good reason is evidence enough that things must change on college campuses if universities hope to continue being what they've always been: places for debate, not indoctrination.
