Liberal response to Horowitz embarrassing for Democrats
I attended the David Horowitz lecture Thursday to watch what I hoped would be a fair debate on ideas and issues that are of a major concern to a number of students and professors at this university ("Horowitz: Students only get half the story," April 14). Let me first say that I'm a registered Democrat, a staunch liberal and have been fortunate enough to have class with Michael Berubé, who Horowitz attacked in his book. I don't agree with anything Horowitz says, but I do respect his right to an opinion. With that said, the display I saw at the lecture made me absolutely ashamed to be a liberal. The catcalling, rude comments, heckling, shouts of expletives and loud laughter during Horowitz's speech were disrespectful both to him and to anyone else who came to hear him speak. To everyone responsible for what I mentioned above, you're employing the same methods that you claim to abhor in so many of our nation's conservative leaders. You substituted volume for intelligence and hypocrisy for respect. Do the rest of us liberals a favor and disassociate yourself from that system of beliefs. Perhaps fascism would suit you better.
