College Republicans right to honor legal immigrants

I do not know what university officials were talking about when they encouraged the College Republicans to rethink their plans for Illegal Immigration Awareness Day ("PSU against illegal immigrant day," April 13). The College Republicans already reworked the details of the program weeks ago with one of the groups originally against them, Latino Caucus.

As officials said, this is a topic of which more people should be aware. The ones forgotten are the legal immigrants. They are the ones who had to go through years of stress to gain citizenship, and those are the people the College Republicans are trying to honor.

And the rally held on Thursday attacked College Republicans, calling them racists. All the people who attended the rally should remember that the Mexican border is not the only border we have in our country. The Canadian border worries me the most because it is even more accessible. People need to realize there is a huge problem that needs to be fixed. And, during the process, let us give the legal immigrants our appreciation for doing things the right way. They deserve to be honored. Don't take that away from them.
