Immigration protest method unsuccessful for Caucuses
The rally in protest of the College Republicans' plans to hold an Illegal Immigration Awareness Day was filled with juvenile tactics and no real substance ("Caucuses protest proposed day," April 14). It consisted of straw man arguments intermixed with yelling. The main arguments began by portraying those opposed to illegal immigration as racists. This was followed by repeating that we cannot allow racism to persist on campus. This ended with demands for a university-generated affirmative action database and racism education. Black Caucus has a history of indiscriminately labeling people as racists because it is much easier to rally around racism than it is to rally in support of those who break the law. The size of the rally put on is directly proportional to the number of unrelated demands they can ask for, and thus it is in their best interest to rummage for support in any way possible. The rally concluded with a deadline for their list of demands. If the demands are not met, they will hold another rally in a week and a half. Bring your sleeping bags for this one, because this looks like the perfect occasion with perfect timing to stage a sit-in right through finals week. This is, of course, provided that the administration stands firm and refuses their terroristic demands. Brian Battaglia
