This is in response to Brett Nadan's letter, "Caution is necessary when driving around local area," April 10. I have lived in State College my entire life and I agree that motorists can be careless.
But from my personal experiences as a delivery driver for Bells Greek Pizza, driving around until 4 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, I find it's the pedestrians, especially drunken ones, who are often careless. I cannot tell you how many times I have been making deliveries and people have stepped out into the street as if they have the right of way, especially at about 2 a.m. on Beaver Avenue.
Another problem I have is when I am trying to get around pedestrians and they yell at me or hit my car because they think I don't see them or that I am going too fast. Pedestrians should use sidewalks and crosswalks (that's what they're there for), and remember they don't have the right of way.
