This letter is in response to The Daily Collegian's editorial, "Drilling for Oil: Legislation necessary to limit fuel dependency," April 13. Free-market economics is what this nation was founded on, and it's the only efficient way to regulate an economy. If the goal is to be less dependent on oil, then the best approach would be to allow free markets to accurately determine supply, demand, costs and alternatives.
Limiting oil use will not lead to widespread changes: If oil is as limited as you say, then minimizing oil supplies will lead to a natural free market change in technology. More oil drilling will lead to less oil dependence faster than artificially limiting supply.
