Accepting transfer credits would hurt PSU graduates

As an alum, I do not think Penn State should allow credits to transfer from other state universities ("Transfer Credits: Opposition to bill shows disregard for students," April 7).

In my mind, this would have at least two negative effects. First, it would make the degree less valuable. If you think about it, Penn State is a well-respected school, both nationwide and worldwide. This would definitely hurt its rankings, ultimately affecting the strength of Penn State degrees and job options for graduates. Second, it will cause tuition to increase. Penn State budgets to receive a certain amount of money in tuition, and if students are taking courses at a different university and not at Penn State, that results in fewer tuition dollars going to Penn State.

I agree tuition is expensive, and it keeps getting worse, but there are other ways to resolve this problem.
