Letter to the Editor
Country affords all citizens right to freedom of speech

I was shocked when I first read Mathew Fallabel's letter regarding Gary Cattell, or the Willard Preacher ("Preacher's words highlight views of bigotry toward gays," April 5). I guess I wasn't aware that during Pride Week, our freedom of speech had been revoked if that speech is directed in any way toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Everybody has the right to speak out and nonviolently protest any issue they wish, including both Fallabel and Cattell. The point I'm trying to make is that eventually we'll just have to learn to accept this fact and begin to tolerate everyone else around us. Hopefully though, we'll also learn to examine ourselves before we rush to judge others.
