Tonight, Penn State students will have the opportunity to not only watch alumnus John Devenanzio on MTV's The Real World: Key West, but will also get the chance to see him in person at STA Travel's summer travel night at 7 tonight in HUB Heritage Hall.

Devenanzio will be present to speak to the audience about his STA travel experience while on The Real World: Key West.

"John is a Penn State graduate, so he seemed like a natural choice for us," Alaina Scalercio, STA Travel branch manager, said. "He should have a lot of relevance with the Penn State student population."

Devenanzio said this event is a good opportunity for him to come up to Penn State and to see people he has not seen in a while and to be able to watch an episode of The Real World with his friends.

Devenanzio said that even though he is now on a television show, the interactions he has with his friends will remain the same.

"A lot of people are probably expecting me to change," he said. "To be honest, I know how I am and my friends like me for John, not for the character I play on the show. I can't really see it changing."

Devenanzio said coming back to Penn State will be exciting for him.

"It's going to be crazy," he said. "It's an amazing feeling to have people actually know you and be interested in what's going on."

Devenanzio said he plans on speaking about his recent travel experiences.

"The trip STA sent us on was the first time I really went outside of the U.S.," he said. "It's amazing how people live in different parts of the world. The people you meet and the things you get to do are just phenomenal."

Scalercio said STA Travel is one of the largest travel agencies in the world that is devoted to student and youth travel. Starting in Australia, it now has more than 400 branches worldwide all devoted to helping students travel.

"This night is geared at encouraging students to travel over the summer, and to serve as a forum for the many options available to them," Scalercio said.

She said there will be a lot of travel information handed out at the door, and different materials will be set up for students.

Scalercio said there should be a nice mix of people at the event.

"There will be some people who are curious and not sure what it's about," she said.

"Other people there will be planning graduation trips, summer trips, etc. and are looking for more information," Scalercio added.

Some Penn State students are drawn to the event because Devenanzio will be present.

"[Devenanzio] is hot," Nicole Grejda (freshman-human development and family studies) said. "But he was also a normal person who is now on TV and is going places. I think it'll be easier to listen to him because if he can do it, we can, too."

Other students agreed that Devenanzio will cause people to come out to the event.

"I definitely think more students will listen to [Devenanzio] because they think Real World people are like celebrities," Julie Thompson (freshman-human development and family studies) said.

"People from here like to say that someone who went to their school is now on TV," she added.

Scalercio said she hopes to get out the message to students that the summer is the perfect time to travel.

"We want to get people thinking about what they can really do and encourage them to travel," she said. "It will be a really exciting event."

Devenanzio said he misses Penn State for the campus, the nightlife and, of course, the beautiful young ladies.

However, he said he is excited to speak at the summer travel night.

"STA showed us an amazing time," he said. "Anything I can do to return the favor is awesome."
