While both the men's and women's rugby teams waited on the side of a Virginian highway last Sunday evening after a harrowing bus crash, a few of my teammates and I joked that maybe this would finally give the women's team some Daily Collegian coverage. Sadly, as shown by the article, "Rugby's championship trip halted by accident," April 5, apparently only one sentence was needed to recap the events endured by our team. This disappointment has been a common occasion this semester.
During the spring there have been nine articles about the men's team and just one, available only online, about the women's team. I do not wish to take credit away from the men because they are having a phenomenal season, but the women are as well. And while both teams will be playing in Sweet Sixteen games, the women's team will host two rounds at Penn State. Knowledge of this event would allow the students to come out and watch some exciting rugby.
The women's team has won the national championship three times, and we aim to win another this year, and if you keep an eye out you just might see us reach that goal. But apparently you'll have to look for an article somewhere other than the Collegian to find out.
