Letter to the Editor
Greeks, nongreeks share same sense of PSU pride

I was baffled when I opened The Daily Collegian and found Lana Ulrich's column, "Greeks serve unique purpose at universities," April 6, because finally someone outside the greek community has lashed out at those who continually bash greek life and its impact on the campus and the community.

The greek community doesn't consider itself some sort of elitist group that thinks for some reason we are all part of a higher section of society; it is those outside the greek community who constantly smear us with that title. Just like any other group at Penn State, greek groups provide a way to find somewhere where you belong. I wear my greek letters with the same pride that members of the football team wear their jerseys, because it is something I have earned.

But my pride does not carry with it the belief that I am better than anyone else. We all struggle to find a place to fit in, especially in a school of 40,000 students, and whether that place is in the greek community, a club sport or a student organization, it shouldn't matter. Greek or not, we all share the pride that is Penn State, and I think that is something we all too often forget.
