Rapper Talib Kweli will be the headlining act of this year's Movin' On and will be performing at 10:30 p.m. April 22 on the main stage on the HUB lawn.
Jared Newman (sophomore-public relations), a member of the Movin' On core committee, said the performance was confirmed Friday after one of Kweli's shows was canceled and Kweli's agent called to say he was available for Movin' On 2006.
"When we thought he wasn't coming, we were like 'crap,' but then when I got that phone call that said he was coming, I was going crazy," said Eddie Fugelsang (sophomore-information sciences and technolo-
gy), side stage manager in the core committee for Movin' On. "I don't even know what I was doing; I just flipped out."
Newman, who was one of the people in charge of booking the show for Movin' On, said he was excited it came together after months of planning.
"[Kweli] is really going to put the nail in the coffin for this year, and it will be the best Movin' On ever," Newman said.
Newman said Kweli is one of the up-and-coming rap artists who has a very strong following because of his ability to cover many genres.
"He draws a diverse audience; just about anyone can come [to Movin' On] and have a great time," Newman said.
Kweli, who got his start in the '90s, has collaborated with artists such as Mary J. Blige and Kanye West. His newest album, Right About Now, hit stores in November. He was also recently featured in Dave Chappelle's Block Party and has appeared on Chappelle's Show numerous times.
