Amid all the apathy that exists, both on this campus and in the global community, I commend anyone who has a cause, tries to raise awareness or goes against authority. Saying that the message of the protest by United Students Against Sweatshops was "lost" and degrading their statement as "indecent" gives no credit to the students who feel strongly about this issue and who prove their dedication by protesting at Penn State, going to conferences, studying the issue and organizing their peers into a club ("Naked Protest raises eyebrows, not awareness," April 4).
Furthermore, the protest was meant to be out of the ordinary, and also comical. It was Monday morning; should the protest have been dull? It was also a kickoff for Student Labor Action Week. Being a freshman, I am surprised there is not more activism on campus. I think students who organize for a cause further enhance Penn State's atmosphere. It motivates me and makes me feel like I can make a difference and I'm part of something that's huge and meaningful. And, might I add, the administration's refusal to adopt the Designated Supplier Program for Penn State apparel also motivates me ... to protest.
