Letter to the Editor
Students should make concerns known to PSU

With regard to Tuesday's editorial on the Fee Allocation Board, there seems to be increasing concern on campus about the loss of democratic voice on the part of the students ("Fee Allocation Board: Administrative influence limits students' power," April 4). The concern is warranted as the administration tells students it considers them adults in terms of paying tuition, but it considers them children in terms of making key decisions that affect their community.

Additionally, there's the expectation that students are supposed to be educated as citizens to tackle some of the most difficult issues facing society, yet are often told simple university decisions are too complicated for them. Democratic voice will never just be given to students until students demand such a voice. Whether it's problems with how tuition money is spent or grossly underreported sexual assault statistics by the university, students cannot afford to continue to keep their heads down and believe the Penn State public relations arm when it says everything's OK.

Things will only change when a larger portion of students say, we pay tuition, we pay your salaries, we care about the future of this university and its place in society and we demand a larger voice in university decisions.
