According to Matthew Fallabel, Pride Week is "supposed to create awareness and an outlet for Penn State's student body to show their love" for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community ("Preacher's words highlight views of bigotry toward gays," April 5). This is true, but Fallabel also believes that during Pride Week Gary Cattell, the Willard Preacher, has to waive his First Amendment right to free speech if he is talking about the LGBT community. This itself is a "bigoted" opinion.
Tolerance means "enduring against" something. It doesn't mean you must show support for an idea with which you disagree. "Enduring against" can get out of hand, but I am going to go out on a limb and say the Willard Preacher is doing his best to nonviolently protest homosexuality and other sins with which he does not agree. That's tolerance in its purest form.
