Letter to the Editor
Immigration debates confuse legal statuses

It's funny to read letters to The Daily Collegian during my lunch breaks to get my daily, "at least I'm not as dumb as that guy." Xavier Santos's letter, "American history illustrates importance of immigrants," April 5, was no exception. The issue the College Republicans were addressing was one of illegal immigrants; the key word is illegal. Santos then states that all citizens of this country are here because of immigrants, which is correct. But these were mainly legal immigrants. And the key word here is legal. Nobody is demonstrating against legal immigration; it is what made this country great. So please do not accuse everyone of "spewing ignorant garbage," and stop playing the race card.
