The Daily Collegian editorial, "Fee Allocation Board: Administrative influence limits students' power," April 4, was off target. While I will agree the administration has done more in recent years to take control of student interests, this however, is not one of those cases.
On the surface, the Fee Allocation Board (FAB) seems like a power grab, but if the Board of Opinion had done research before ripping apart the idea, it might have learned there is a board that will keep FAB accountable as well. This board is the Student Activity Fee Board. It is a committee that gives direct advice to Penn State President Graham Spanier on all items concerning the fee. While Vice President of Student Affairs Vicky Triponey is the chairman of this board, it consists of five student representatives.
Instead of writing misguided opinions about the structure of FAB, why doesn't the Collegian put more time and effort into investigating the Information Technology Fee? It is three times the amount of the student activity fee and it has no elected student input.
