Government should legalize personal use of marijuana

In response to the column, "Drug abuse dangerous, regardless of type," April 4, I agree that all drug abuse can be dangerous to your health, but so can eating steak all the time.

The government bases its substance policy on potential for abuse, medical uses and lack of safety. Marijuana has lower potential for abuse than alcohol because it is only psychologically addicting and not physically addicting. It has known medical uses and there are prescription medications containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana. As Edward Rosick states, marijuana has zero overdose potential, so why is the government even wasting its time and our money?
