American history illustrates importance of immigrants

I am appalled by the opinions I have read in The Daily Collegian regarding immigration. First of all, this is not an issue between Darryl Watson and the College Republicans ("Caucuses call club's proposal insensitive," March 30). This is an issue between students of all colors on this campus against racism and bigotry.

The idea that all illegal immigrants are nothing more than criminals and are bad for this country is irresponsible. Did you forget your ancestors were immigrants? The reason everyone is where they are now is because of immigrants. Your great-grandparents or grandparents came to Ellis Island to give you a better life. Nothing has changed except the color of the people coming into the country. None of us are natives of this country; it was stolen from the American Indians. All immigrants want is a better life and an opportunity.

Before you spew ignorant garbage, do a little research and catch up on your history.
