Letter to the Editor
Caucus spokesman detracts from group's real concerns

Members of the Black Caucus handled the issue of the "Illegal Immigration Game" poorly ("Caucuses call club's proposal insensitive," March 30). Unlike the Latino Caucus, who met and spoke with the College Republicans over their objections to the game, members of the Black Caucus simply showed up to the College Republicans meeting and yelled profanity when the floor was opened to questions.

First and foremost, having an expletive as your opening comment is inappropriate and a poor way to show your position on an issue. Instead of explaining at the meeting their objections to the game, they initiated a shouting match with members of the College Republicans, ultimately labeling all of them racist.

It isn't right to put the blame on Black Caucus as a whole. There's no reason to label an entire club as irrational because of a few members. Then again, Black Caucus decided to label an entire club racist because of the actions of a few members. Perhaps Black Caucus is happy with how its members conveyed their stance on the issue, but I hope not.
