Another year of planning for Penn State's dance-crazy weekend is about to begin.
The remaining members of the 2007 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon Overall Committee were appointed Monday night.
The 16 students chosen for the positions are: Kyle Winter, IFC associate vice president; Janessa Klahs, Panhellenic Council associate vice president; Dan Cocco, communications chairman; Megan Farrell, donor relations chairwoman; Lindsay Jenkins, entertainment chairwoman; Mary Rowe, family relations chairwoman; Kate Rippe, finance chairwoman; Melissa Ciurlino, hospitality chairwoman; Cathlyn Troskosky, morale chairwoman; Bill O'Tormey, operations chairman; Megan Kendrick, public relations chairwoman; Lena Matternas, rules and regulations chairwoman; Elisa Lenthe, special assistant; Nicole Simon, supply logistics chairwoman; Jaime Lennen, special events chairwoman; and Brian Ghigiarelli, technology chairman.
Mike Funk, former IFC associate vice president, was announced as Thon overall chairman on March 17, and he appointed the rest of the overall committees with the help of Winter and Klahs after many interviews.
Funk said he received many applications the past few weeks, and this shows the dedication students have to Thon.
"It was difficult to choose because there are so many qualified people, but this year there is a new opportunity for growth, and this is the perfect committee to do it," Funk said.
Cocco, former corporate relations overall chairman, said he applied for the overall committee again because he wanted to do more for Thon and help with the move to the Bryce Jordan Center.
"The next year is an important year for Thon, and I was a fit for this committee," Cocco said.
He said his challenge for Thon 2007 is to make sure his committee, students, alumni and Thon fanatics know all the correct information regarding Thon and the move to the Bryce Jordan Center. The alumni are also important, Cocco said, and he wants to improve the connection between them, Penn State and Thon.
"Come Thon weekend, everyone will see that [the BJC] is Thon and it is awesome," he added.
Farrell said she has wanted to be part of the overall committee since her freshman year, and now, in her junior year, she will oversee the donor relations committee, formerly the corporate relations committee.
The former marketing committee was also renamed to supply logistics committee.
She said the committee will now oversee the individual donors for Thon, and she hopes to improve the benefits the corporate donors will receive, especially because the BJC is more technologically advanced and there can be more company promotions.
Jenkins decided to apply because she said she had many new ideas and improvements for the entertainment committee when she was an entertainment captain and this position could put them into action.
Jenkins said the move to the BJC will make it possible for her to book bigger-named entertainment performers, which will also attract more media attention and possibly students that weren't interested in Thon before.
"If they come to see their favorite band and enjoy the experience, they will come back again and again, and hopefully our PSU family will grow," she added.
Funk said the overall committee plans on meeting sometime this week to start planning Thon 2007.
