Vendetta' movie critics should read novel first
Mike Czyzewski should read V for Vendetta before immediately claiming that any one disappointed with the film is closed-minded ("Reviewer misses entire point of recent 'Vendetta' release," March 29). Anyone who makes a judgment like his without both seeing an original work as well as its adaptation is closer to "close-mindedness" than someone who prefers one over the other. While I thought V for Vendetta was a good, if not a great film, Dustin Pangonis made a correct observation when he said it was a big budget, action-oriented version of the book. And while the movie was thought provoking, if Czyzewski read the graphic novel, he would find that the "more potent bombs" are definitely in the original written work. No, V for Vendetta was no mere action film. But as far as the ideas it expresses, it does not have the same potency or complexity as the novel. The movie is not only shortened, but it is greatly simplified.I invite Czyzewski to read V for Vendetta quite wholeheartedly: If he liked the movie for its ideas, he should love the book.
