Letter to the Editor
Thon dancers ignorant of troubles kids face

In Michelle LaBoda's letter, which lamented the shortening of Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (Thon), she made a statement that is said too often here ("Revision to Thon schedule will ruin great PSU tradition," March 29). She said Thon dancers "get a glimpse of what it's like to have cancer."

No, they don't. The dancers stand in Rec Hall for 48 (now 45) hours and they're really tired and really sore afterward. They do make many sacrifices to raise money for the kids. But those dancers go to bed on Sunday, they wake up on Monday and they still don't have cancer.

It's the height of arrogance to say the ordeal of the dancers even comes close to approximating what those kids go through every day of their lives. How about a little humility?
