U.S. Capitol Police contact Penn State
Though it is unclear why, U.S. Capitol Police contacted Penn State Police Services to alert them of a "mentally unstable individual [who] was on campus attempting to contact athletic department members," according to the university police. Penn State Police assisted Patton Township and Ferguson Township police departments in locating the individual.
The individual, who is not a student, was located at a State College hotel and taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for evaluation. A police report from Patton Township will be released over the weekend.
PSU student pepper-sprayed by police
The State College Police Department said a Penn State student was pepper-sprayed after she resisted arrest Wednesday.
Christie Mannino, 21, attempted to get into the Gingerbread Man, 130 Hiester St., with fake identification. She was turned away and an employee called the police. Police said that Mannino proceeded down Calder Way and that the employee got in the police car and helped point her out.
The police said they tried to stop her, but she ran away and resisted arrest to the point where she had to be pepper-sprayed. A breathalyzer test revealed her blood alcohol content to be .17 percent, police said. Mannino is charged with resisting arrest and alcohol-related counts.
