Dustin Pangonis's review, "Movie adaptation of comic disappointing," March 24, is not only way off the mark, it is yet another example of movie-critic elitism and closed-mindedness.
Perhaps instead of slamming a movie for its differences to the work it is "based" on, this review could have taken the movie at face value. To claim that V for Vendetta is a "big-budget movie with vague social themes" proves that Pangonis let the bombs, in the literal sense of the word, blind him from the more potent bombs, or the ideas underlying those "big-budget" explosions.
This film is not only powerful, but it also manages to challenge the audience to think. Those who accept the challenge, I think, will find themselves mulling over this movie after the credits roll. To those like Pangonis, who want to write this film off as a mere "action film," I think you are missing the point entirely.
