"Were super excited to play, but bring Band-Aids because this is going to be friggin' awesome," The M's singer and guitarist Josh Chicoine said in an e-mail message on behalf of the band. "The M's are ready to melt some faces off with their rock sound."
The four-member band has been featured in magazines such as SPIN, Rolling Stone and GQ. The Chicago natives are also known for their British/indie pop-rock melodies.
"I think The M's are a really good band," Roustabout! promoter Jesse Ruegg said. "They are a band with a label that is critically acclaimed."
Chicoine said jokingly that the last time they were in Pennsylvania, someone was struck by lightning during their show, but it wasn't from the sky. It was from the guitars on stage, because that's just how they "rock 'n' roll."
The group will play songs from its EPs as well as from its recent debut album, Future Women, which features songs such as "Underground" and "Light I Love."
"[The M's] kind of sound like The White Stripes, but with their own unique tune," Christine Widrig (sophomore-economics) said. "Their song 'Plan of the Man' is pretty cool."
Greg Gabbard, owner of City Lights Records, 316 E. College Ave., said he was impressed by The M's' new album. "It's great. I really like the energy and a little bit of the T-Rex sounds in the vocals," Gabbard said.
Pittsburgh band Camera will be joining the lineup and making a return to Roustabout! tonight by opening for The M's.
Camera has played in State College numerous times.
The band is back in action and will be performing its '60s inspired pop songs with all kinds of instruments, including trumpets, Ruegg said.
Camera's music consists of a combination of different instruments and trumpet melodies with songs such as "Bump Into Beats" and "She's a Good Girl."
"All the times [Camera] have been here, generally people really liked them," Ruegg said.
