Letter to the Editor
Consuming meat products part of natural human diet

What is the purpose of having a 'meatout'? Never once has there been a day when all nonmeat products were banned from residence halls and restaurants to promote eating meat ("Animal rights groups plan 'meatout' events," March 17).

We do not go around urging people to eat meat, but yet countless people attend protests and sign petitions against what they consider the horrible act of being a carnivore and urge us to only eat foods such as vegetables, fruits and tofu.

The last time I checked, humans have sharp canine teeth not meant for eating vegetables. They are designed to consume meat products. Cows are raised to be milked, much like some calves are raised to be veal. Cows are not pets nor were they ever meant to be. We don't eat dogs and cats because we raise them as pets. If we raised them as livestock, then I'm sure more people would not have a problem with it. According to biologists, plants are alive as well, so why not protest eating plants and the unfairness of not giving them a full life?
