Photo of Feminist Fair detracts from message
While I am appreciative of yesterday's coverage of the Feminist Fair, and its very existence for that matter, I cannot help but notice something on the front page of the paper that is just as greatly disturbing to me ("HUB hosts Feminist Fair," March 23). Jeremy Manno stood in front of a mirror with questions that women ask themselves about their bodies every day: "Breasts too big?"; "Too tall?"; "Stretch Marks?" But has anyone noticed that Manno conveniently provides an answer to all of those questions? The print on his shirt simply states, "Don't be a pussy..." I am disgusted at the message that both his clothing and his picture depict --that there is no cure for any woman's problem because her greatest tragedy is being female. I do not want to blame Manno for my feelings. He did, after all, take time out of his day to attend the fair. On the contrary, I think that this is a social issue that must be addressed by all individuals. What good is a feminist fair if its attendees promote sentiments that are derogatory toward women? The writing on Manno's shirt is, literally and figuratively, bold, backward and right in every woman's face. Good for you for attending the fair, Manno, but your wardrobe could use a little work.
