Despite campus rumors, there are few known facts about the condition of the Penn State freshman who fell from a sixth-floor dorm window.
Because of federal laws, the Altoona hospital is not permitted to release the condition of Ryan P. Walton, 19, of Harleysville.
Penn State spokesman Bill Mahon said Walton's parents have indicated they don't want any further medical information released about their son.
Walton's roommate declined to talk to the press about his condition.
Walton was flown to Altoona hospital by helicopter after he climbed out of Beaver Hall's sixth-floor supplemental room. On Sunday, Residence Life
directors told students in Beaver Hall that Walton's roommate said he was doing well. Diane Andrews, director of Residence Life, told students it was her understanding that Walton was talking and "in good shape," considering the circumstances of the fall.
But yesterday, an Altoona hospital receptionist said there was no listing for a patient under the name of Ryan Walton. However, she said that could mean that there is a confidentiality block on his name or that Walton has been moved to another facility.
His condition -- and location -- remains a mystery. Walton was not listed as a patient at Mount Nittany Medical Center, the Hershey Medical Center or Geisinger Medical Center in Danville last night. St. Mary Medical Center and Doylestown Hospital, which are closer to Walton's hometown, are also not listing Walton as a patient.
Walton fell about 55 feet just before midnight March 17. According to a statement released by Penn State, he was at a St. Patrick's Day party on the sixth floor of Beaver Hall with more than two dozen people.
Penn State University Police arrived to break up the party at about 11 p.m. and began questioning students in the hallway. The university police log indicates underage citations were being issued when the officers were alerted that someone had fallen from a window.
Walton had knotted together a sheet and a blanket, tied one end to a bed, and climbed out the window, holding on to the constructed rope, according to witnesses. He was found lying in dirt, grass and gravel on the northeast side of Beaver Hall near the Pollock Halls quad area.
Police reported finding a "significant amount of beer and liquor" in the dorm room.
The last information Penn State reported on Walton's condition was that he had significant internal injuries and injuries to his back, arms and pelvic area.
