NEWS

Late nights and good, cheap foods come hand in hand at Penn State, and when one of State College's popular restaurants moves downtown this summer, there will be yet another option for that perfect midnight snack.

Undergraduate Student Government (USG) executive candidates will be coming soon to an area near you.

Bicyclists will have a chance to help future educators in high school through a new marathon scheduled next month.

After a little bump of controversy in 2002, State College children's book writer Martha Freeman continues to dish out children's books with creativity, style and a strong sense of community.

State College Borough Council members returned Thursday from the League of Cities meeting, held in Washington, D.C., with an amendment that will aid the borough in its quest for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

Some 18 people discussed the stereotypes of race and drug use last night in an Osmond Building classroom as part of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority's RHOmania week.

Though the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) elections have lost a team campaigning for president and vice president positions, the presence of leadership was strongly felt at last night's first executive debate, breathing life into the seemingly deflated USG elections.

While the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon raises millions of dollars every year, other student civic organizations often get overlooked, Jane Richardson, USG social awareness committee director, said.

After local fire inspectors discovered a problem with a national brand of wireless smoke detectors recently installed in many local apartments, the State College Borough Council voted unanimously last night to extend the deadline for property owners to install replacement detectors in every bedroom of a rental property.

A State College resident who allegedly broke into a woman's apartment and threatened her with a knife was taken into custody yesterday after his mother helped police locate him.

SPORTS

As Tommy Lasorda released the ceremonial first pitch in the opening round of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in Tokyo, Japan, three weeks ago, the message was on target, even though the pitch rolled feebly to home plate.

She ponders the question for only a few seconds.

Something is wrong with the No. 14 Penn State women's lacrosse team and, since it cannot identify the problem, it cannot fix it. The kicker is that the problem is not focused on one specific area, but is all over the field.

For each of the four press conferences preceding the second round of the women's NCAA tournament, each coach was asked, "What has your experience been like at University Park?"

There is no rest for the weary Penn State women's lacrosse team. After finishing their game against Princeton on Saturday, their third loss in a row, the Nittany Lions (3-3) must now travel to take on the Temple Owls (2-3) at 4 p.m. today in Philadelphia.

Eddie is the latest addition to the Penn State men's volleyball team.
