A State College resident who allegedly broke into a woman's apartment and threatened her with a knife was taken into custody yesterday after his mother helped police locate him.
The State College Police Department charged 22-year-old Aaron J. Dillen, of 10 Vairo Blvd., yesterday with burglary, criminal trespass, terroristic threats and simple assault after he was forced to turn himself in upon receiving a phone call from the Pennsylvania State Police.
After he fled the incident where he allegedly threatened a woman in her residence early yesterday morning, the police went to his mother's house looking for clues about where he was. She gave police his cell phone number and he turned himself in around noon yesterday.
The 28-year-old victim awoke around 6 a.m. yesterday when she heard a knock at her bedroom door. She answered the door and, according to the criminal complaint, told police that she found Dillen standing in the upstairs hallway of her apartment, located on the 700 block of West Westhall Road.
According to the criminal complaint, Dillen demanded to know where the victim's roommate, his former girlfriend, was. The victim told Dillen to leave, and he said he would not leave until she told him where her roommate was, police said.
After the victim repeatedly told Dillen to leave, she was able to coerce him to walk downstairs where he continued to refuse to leave. The criminal complaint stated that when he was near the front door, he pulled out a silver-colored knife and held it 2 to 3 inches from the victim's face and said, "If you don't tell me where she is, or if you call the police, I'm going to stab you."
She told police she was afraid for her life and began to cry. Dillen then left the house and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
After the police arrived, the victim said she and her other roommate, a man, made an effort the night before the incident to make sure that the apartment doors were locked before going to bed because of Dillen's previous behavior. She said she did not know how he entered the apartment.
The victim said Dillen and her roommate broke up about a month ago and he knew he was not allowed in the apartment.
State College police Officer Robert Bradley said Dillen had been arrested before, but information on the exact charges was unavailable.
Dillen was arraigned before District Judge Jonathan Grine. He is being held in Centre County Prison in lieu of $75,000 straight bail.
