A woman who was visiting Penn State over the weekend reported to police that she was sexually assaulted in a dorm hall early Saturday morning.
At about 4:30 a.m., Penn State University Police responded to a visitor who reported she was sexually assaulted by an unknown man in dorm in Pollock Halls.
University plice Supervisor Clifford Lutz said the woman had met the man earlier that evening at a party.
"He wasn't a complete stranger, but they didn't know each other very well at all," he said.
Lutz said the police are not releasing the man's name, and he would not say whether the man was a student. Lutz also would not confirm whether the man was in custody.
The woman sought medical attention and talked to a sexual assault counselor, Lutz said. Police would not specify the woman's age or the exact dorm.
"We can't release any more information because we are still collecting evidence and interviewing people to help with our investigation," Lutz said.
He said more information would probably be released sometime this afternoon.
University police officer Cyprien Brien said that although he could not release details, the police are taking this incident very seriously.
"Any sexual assault that is reported to us is a very important and serious matter," Brien said. "We are investigating the events very thoroughly."
University spokesman Bill Mahon said he had not looked into the incident and had no other information on it.
