Someone new has taken over the reins for the 48-hour dance frenzy.
Evan Jacobs, 2006 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon overall chairman, announced Friday that Mike Funk will be the Thon 2007 overall chairman.
Funk was the IFC associate vice president for the 2006 Thon. "[Funk] was really engaged with the committee and has great ideas and great commitment that I know will serve Thon 2007 very well," Jacobs said.
Funk said that although it has been a few days since he was named the new overall chairman, it is still surreal.
He said he will have the committees focusing on involvement and attracting new groups and donors.
But he said what he wants to continue working on is the improved recording methods the Thon committees started using for this year's event.
Funk said he wants to have solid information about every aspect of Thon, such as contact information and group dancer lists, to make the transition of committee overalls smoother.
"I want to pay attention to all the little details," Funk added.
He said this idea is a continuation of an initiative started last year to make the internal sector of Thon more organized and even more successful.
Funk said he is excited to be working with the Bryce Jordan Center in the Thon move from Rec Hall.
The center is larger and safer, and Thon can use newer technology, which was harder to do in Rec Hall, he said.
He said the move to a larger facility will increase involvement. "It's a great avenue for Thon," Funk said. "We can improve on what we do [at the center.]"
Funk said the applications for the remainder of the overall committee are available today and due March 29. Funk will chose the committee on April 3.
