NEWS

Undergraduate Student Government (USG) candidates will begin campaigning today to hold positions in next year's student government -- all the while unsure if USG will be the recognized student representation next year.

The proposed University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) continues to be discussed at the administrative level and has yet to receive a response from Penn State President Graham Spanier.

A man who police say tried to sell an undercover police officer $7,000 worth of OxyContin and morphine pills Tuesday is facing three felony charges.

Police give student, 23, three citations

He says it was consensual sex. The assistant district attorney -- and the girl who claims he sexually assaulted her -- say Scott Paxson is lying.

A former university employee who allegedly stole more than $151,000 from Penn State was arrested last week.

While most of Penn State was away for spring break, almost 100 people gathered on campus to remember the life of a student who was brutally killed last month.

A few hundred Penn State students traveled south for spring break last week, but not for margaritas and sun bathing.

SPORTS

INDIANAPOLIS -- Four years ago, Jamelle Cornley and Ron Lewis stepped off the hardwood at Brookhaven High as teammates. It was likely the last time the players' paths would cross.

They almost saw gleaming daylight, but got cloud cover instead.

If a book delved into the themes applicable to sports, the author would surely discuss how difficult it is to beat a team three times in one season.

The Big Ten wrestling tournament is a little different than other tournaments that the conference holds. There is more at stake individually than as a team.

WEST CHESTER -- Seconds after the game ended, one half of the ice was dotted with navy blue gloves and hockey sticks. The other, faces of defeat. With the scoreboard showing Rhode Island 3, Penn State 1, players from both teams lined up for the traditional post-game handshake.

Most people would return from a week-long trip to Hawaii with visions of palm trees, sandy beaches, beautiful oceans and luaus. The Penn State softball team, however, remained focused on its task and returned with visions of a walk-off grand slam, a Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament Championship, a tournament MVP and a start hotter than the paradise-like atmosphere it left behind in Honolulu this weekend.

Going into last week's stretch of eight games in eight days in Clearwater, Fla., Penn State baseball coach Robbie Wine said he expected his team to come away all wins and no losses.

One more time the Penn State men's volleyball team traveled to the West Coast to take on some of the nation's best competition, and, one more time, it returned with tallies in the loss column. During a trip to Hawaii in mid-January, the No. 8 Nittany Lions lost three consecutive matches and last week's outing in California mirrored their first tour.

The Penn State men's gymnastics team's dual meet against the University of California ended at 1 a.m. EST yesterday morning.

Number of posts hit by the Penn State men's lacrosse team: one.

It was a tale of two squads, as the No. 16 Penn State women's gymnastics team showed its good side and its ugly side in two meets last week.

Number of posts hit by the Penn State men's lacrosse team: one.

So far this spring for the No. 51 Penn State men's tennis team, its matches have been all-or-nothing contests.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. To beat the best, you have to play the best. And that is exactly what the Penn State men's rugby team has done.

After months of shattering records and building confidence, a select few Penn State women's track and field athletes may have wanted to finish the indoor season on a better note.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Forget the X's and O's, the film study and the game planning. As the Penn State men's basketball team learned on Friday, the most significant action in the sport is simply putting the ball in the basket.
