Printing alleged rape details unnecessary for Collegian

In The Daily Collegian article "Paxson charged with sexual assault," March 2, the reporter described the alleged rape of a woman by former Penn State football player Scott Paxson. After reading the details of the rape according to court documents, I felt sad, ashamed and embarrassed for the victim. One particular paragraph reads like a soft-core porn story bringing disrespect to the victim.

I understand that it is perfectly legal to print such information because the information is public record, but good taste and discretion were not taken when printing the details. The victim may be a best friend, a sister or a girlfriend to someone, and no one would like that degree of detail printed regarding ourselves or someone we love and care about. I believe the Collegian owes an apology to its readers, the victim's friends and family, and the victim herself.
