While I think the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) standoff is nothing more than a "peeing in the wind" contest, I feel a need to speak out on the issue about which I think the entire student body is disheartened ("UPUA receives majority of votes," March 2).
The problem is that USG President Galen Foulke offered a false dichotomy: Just because USG is ineffective doesn't mean UPUA is the answer to all of its problems. I propose, instead, that we get rid of all forms of student representation. Personally, I voted at least four times in each student "election," casting laughably more than considerable doubt on this word that we call "legitimacy."
If students don't want to take part in a student representative election, let's see how far that goes. And until every single student understands the importance of representation, let us rid ourselves of petty bickering and ridiculous and laughable elections.
