Reassignment of Plotts will hurt PSU campus

It is a shame to hear one of Penn State "landmarks" is leaving the University Park campus ("Mail Guys keep post office lively," March 3).

I lived off campus for half of my college career and still never ventured to the off-campus post office. And why should I have? Mike Herr and Don Plotts, as a team, made every visit to the University Park Post Office a memorable one. Icy weather and a bad midterm were easily forgotten by a visit to the post office and a smile or joke from the duo. Frankly, I think the post office has made a critical error in thinking a machine could provide better service. Herr's and Plotts' notoriety probably increased sales for the office. At least the post office can't stop our favorite postmen from celebrating at Homecoming, the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon and their infamous senior bar tours.
