'Real World' promotes unhealthy diet habits
I watched exactly 90 seconds of the new Real World: Key West on MTV. The entire clip was devoted to a woman talking to a man about how she couldn't eat a piece of pizza. OK, so MTV has decided eating disorders are something that should be part of its "real world," and they decided to play up that angle. Forget alcoholism, illiteracy and bigotry, they now need to give us one more exalted bad example. The disclaimer, I'm sure, is that they are trying to put this skinny woman in the limelight to tell the public "don't be like this, it's unhealthy." This woman is exactly why people get diseases from window shopping magazine racks. It is morally and ethically irresponsible for MTV to devote airtime to this woman who doesn't eat. It is wrong for MTV to devote 10 percent of the airtime to this woman not eating, while the other 90 percent of the time shows her having sex, being popular with men and spreading her "I'm skinny, you should be, too" subconscious propaganda. Watch if you will, but question every second. It's fun to see your neighbor, your boss or that random stranger embarrass himself or herself while clucking like a chicken. It's not so fun when you and people you care about sprout feathers. Jim McKeogh
