Basketball game protests detract from LGBT mission
This is in response to the letter, "Portland protesters speak on behalf of LGBT athletes," March 1. As a whole, I believe Penn State supports the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and its fight for equality. The problem that we have is the timing of the latest protest. Fans went to watch the game and support the Penn State Lady Lions on their great season and during halftime, we enjoy the performances of the cheerleaders and dance team. The decision to protest during halftime hurt the LGBT cause because it was annoying to the fans. How would the LGBT community like it if the Penn State Blue Band and cheerleaders decided to have a show in the middle of one of its rallies at Old Main? We support the LGBT community, but I hope it chooses its next protest with more discretion. Nothing hurts the cause more than annoying people who would otherwise support it. Josh Hopp
