'Liberal' professor provides informative material on race

David Horowitz's book, The Professors: 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America, includes two Penn State professors and is outrageous ("Horowitz claims 2 teachers are unfit, " Feb. 28). Horowitz claims that a university is supposed to provide a well-rounded education for its students, and exposure to different teaching styles and political views.

The accusations against the professors Horowitz singled, senior sociology lecturer Sam Richards and English professor Michael Berube, are outlandish.

I cannot speak on Berube's behalf, but as a former student of Richards', I never thought he forced his students to believe in his supposedly liberal ideals. He simply likes to challenge his classes to think differently. Horowitz obviously did not do his research on Richards' lectures or all of his work to further race relations. Before publishing his book, maybe Horowitz should have done a little research. Perhaps then he would have asked himself why Richards is one of the most popular professors on campus and checked out a lecture for himself.
