Portland protests at game ruin Lady Lion senior day

Whether women's basketball coach Rene Portland is guilty or innocent remains to be decided. However, it is important to remember that she is innocent until proven guilty in this country ("Protest against Portland hits last home game," Feb. 27). With that said, I would like to inform all of the protesters that the Lady Lions played their last home game on Sunday. For the seniors, it was their last home game at Penn State. Most students would agree that regardless of the discrimination allegations, the game was about the team, specifically the seniors. It would have been nice for those players to have a positive atmosphere as a final memory of their playing tenure at Penn State.

Don't get me wrong, protesting is fine and it definitely has its purpose. However, it also has its place, and Sunday at the Bryce Jordan Center was not the place. Whatever problem the protesters had with the coach should not have spilled over to the players who were playing their hearts out. Those hard-working individuals deserve much better than that as they proudly represent the university. And after the actions of the protesters, the same cannot be said for them.
