Sports traffic patterns cause driver headaches

I'd like to know the logic behind the traffic patterns set up after basketball games, or at least know that there is logic. I live in Toftrees, so it should only take about three minutes to get back by turning left onto Porter Road from Curtain Road.

However, the current pattern allows for only right turns off of Curtain forcing everyone down Porter. Then one has to drive onto the bypass, which lengthens the trip to about 10 minutes. Wouldn't it cut down on a lot of the traffic on Porter Road to allow cars to turn left?
