Affirmative Action debate shows current inequalities
The headline, "Black leaders trade opinions in affirmative action debate," Feb. 16, printed in The Daily Collegian regarding the affirmative action debate shows that we as a society have not come as far as we think in terms of equality. The goal of the Civil Rights Movement and programs like affirmative action is to create a truly equal society where race is ultimately not a factor. When prominent black leaders debate an issue, why must their race be the headline? If the day ever comes when that headline would read, "Leaders trade opinions in affirmative action debate," then we know we have finally succeeded in creating that equal society we keep saying we are striving for.
